What is a Comprehensive Assessment (CA)?
A Comprehensive Assessment (CA) is part of the eligibility determination process for people applying for services through the Department of Disabilities Administration (DDA). The CA is a review of your medical, social, and other needs and supports to help determine your eligibility for DDA services.
What should I expect during my CA Visit?
The Comprehensive Assessment (CA) is conducted in your home or preferred location. At your CA, we'll review your relevant medical records and history, document current services and supports, and gather additional information, such as:
- Your goals and preferences
- Environmental, social and functional status
- Educational history
- Employment and income status
- Health education
- Nutritional status
- Emotional and behavioral status
- Health care coverage
- Living situation
- Personal support systems
How do I prepare for my CA?
Information to Gather:
Here are some documents that you may want to have ready for your CA (if applicable) to ensure your assessment is accurate and complete:
- Psychological or Neuropsychological Evaluation
- Current Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Any other relevant medical records

After your CA: Timeline and Next Steps
Because each person's needs are unique, the timeline for determining eligibility for DDA services is different for everyone. The Comprehensive Assessment is just one step in the process. Here is the timeline you can expect:
- Referral: Once DDA receives your application, they refer it to a provider like us to set up a CA.
- Initial Contact: The provider will contact you within 3 days to set up a visit. This is usually a phone call.
- Face-to-Face Visit: Your CA visit is typically done face-to-face. It will take place within 10 days of the initial contact.
- Completed CA: Your completed CA will be submitted to the DDA for review shortly after the interview. Once DDA determines eligibility, you will receive a letter in the mail.
- Follow-Up: The DDA determines your eligibility for services. To follow up for your status, contact your regional DDA office.
